01 Chair

The 01 Chair was created as a tribute to the 1980’s, the decade during which the original design was made. The structure of the 01 Chair is made of iron tube with a polished chrome or matte varnished finish, in black. The seat is beech plywood with elastic belts and covered in leather.

The 01 Chair was designed by Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata. Kuramata is the founder of Kuramata Design Office in Tokyo. He best epitomized the spirit of the era in which he lived, through his highly significant products and creations. Kuramata’s designs are still remarkably modern, and many can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the MoMA in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, the Vitra Design Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art of Toyama.
