Description: Like in the wild, duckweed can offer fish, invertebrates, and amphibians protection in the aquarium. Some fish will naturally stay towards areas of the tank with more coverage. This may be especially beneficial if the rest of the aquascape is minimal and there are not many other places to hide.

Duckweed can also be a good addition to breeding or spawning tanks as fish fry and other larvae will feel extra safe under the protection of dense coverage.

Because of its ability to quickly uptake nutrients, duckweed has been used as a controlled way to reduce excess nutrients and helps prevent algae from taking hold.

• Quarantine: Live plants need to be quarantined before introducing to any new system such as an aquarium, pond or water feature. Unwanted pests and hitchhikers such as snails, larvae, eggs, can be common and to be expected, i.e. unless the plant is lab grown in-vitro (tissue culture). For most submersible plants, an additional step of a 1:20 ratio bleach-to-water plant-dip (leaves only, never dip roots) is recommended; direct message us if you need more detailed instructions for this step, or to check if your plant requires this added step. If you want to be sure your plant is 100% sterilized against unwanted pests or algae, please perform a quarantine and/or bleach dip; always wash and rinse plants before introducing them to any new environment.
