Persicaria hydropiper, also known as knotweed or marsh waterpepper, is a marginal stem plant with slender, lance-shaped green leaves and an upright, bamboo-like growth habit. Its delicate texture and growing form creates a subtle calming effect and planted aesthetic that many aquascapers can appreciate. It will soften emerged sections of an aquascape and can develop pinkish to purple hues under strong light and in nutrient-rich substrate. In nature, it grows along wetland edges, making it a must-have for ponds, paludariums, and hybrid planted tanks with emersed sections.
If you're searching for a unique plant that can be grown multiple ways, try it out! Persicaria Hydropiper can be used in nature-style planted tanks or as an accent plant for your Wabi Kusa. It offers rich color and relatively easy care, making it a great choice for various aquascaping styles. Provide it with moderate to strong lighting, nutrients and CO2 injection if planting in your aquarium.
