Prepped: A Memoir: Coming of Age in Black and White America

Set in early 1970's America and the aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement, Prepped: A Memoir, is the story of Veda Pendleton's journey from her predominantly black community in  Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to The Ethel Walker School (Walker's) in Simsbury, Connecticut. It's the story of a gifted black girl who chose to accept the opportunity to have a better chance at life in America and attend prep school. Veda entered a foreign world fraught with academic, social and emotional challenges as she came of age in both black and white worlds.A young adult memoir, Prepped is an account of Veda's time at Walker's and how she struggled with self-esteem and a new way of learning.
