A rare and highly sought-after pleco variety, the Snow White Bristlenose Pleco L144 (Ancistrus sp.) is a selectively line-bred variant of the popular Bristlenose Pleco. This fish stands out with its pale, almost translucent white coloration—a unique contrast to the more common brown and albino varieties. Its smaller size, peaceful nature, and exceptional algae-eating abilities make it a fantastic choice for freshwater aquariums, especially planted and community setups.

What We Love About This Fish:

• Rare Color Morph: Features a stunning solid white body with subtle translucent tones.
• Algae Control: One of the best natural algae grazers for aquariums.
• Peaceful and Hardy: Thrives in a wide range of water conditions and is compatible with most community fish.
• Smaller Size: Unlike common plecos, stays manageable in size, making it ideal for mid-sized tanks.

Natural Habitat:

While the exact origins of this selectively bred variant are unknown, the Bristlenose Pleco species (Ancistrus sp.) originates from the fast-flowing rivers and streams of South America. These fish are commonly found in areas rich in submerged wood, rocks, and leaf litter, where they graze on biofilm and algae.

Aquascaping:

• Plants: Well-suited for planted tanks with species like Anubias, Java Fern, and Amazon Swords.
• Hardscape: Prefers tanks with driftwood, as it aids digestion and provides hiding spots.
• Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves, Botanical Combo Pack, and Alder Cones can enhance biofilm growth for natural grazing.

Diet and Feeding:

The Snow White Bristlenose Pleco is primarily an herbivore but benefits from a varied diet:
• Algae wafers and sinking pellets for daily nutrition.
• Blanched vegetables such as zucchini, cucumber, and spinach.
• Occasional protein supplementation with frozen or live foods like bloodworms.
• Driftwood is essential, as it provides natural fiber that aids digestion.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

A peaceful species that coexists well with a variety of community fish. Ideal tank mates include:
• Tetras, rasboras, and peaceful barbs.
• Dwarf cichlids such as Apistogramma.
• Corydoras catfish and Otocinclus.
• Livebearers like guppies, mollies, and platies.

Avoid keeping with large, aggressive fish such as Oscars or territorial cichlids, which may harass or outcompete them for food.

Shrimp Safe:

Generally safe with shrimp, as it does not actively hunt them. However, caution is advised with shrimp fry, as plecos may accidentally consume them while foraging.

Breeding:

Snow White Bristlenose Plecos are cave spawners, with males guarding the eggs until hatching. Providing pleco caves, driftwood hollows, or PVC tubes encourages breeding behavior. Fry primarily feed on biofilm, algae, and prepared foods.
