THE GRACE OF GOD IN THE OLD TESTAMENTContemplative Reading of Scripture #120This book treats passages in the Old Testament that describe the grace of God. It invites us to pray with passages that show aspects of the deep and profound grace that God shows to his people. This book forms the hundred and twentieth in the series Contemplative Reading of Scripture. As with other books in this series, this book offers a pattern of prayer called the “Prayer of the Heart to the Trinity.” In this book, chapter 14 describes this type of prayer.This book also follows a contemplative way of reading Scripture called CLASP. These letters stand for: Cor (Heart), Lectio (Reading), Auditus (Listening), Suspiria (Whispers), and Pax (Peace). We begin in our “heart” with prayer. We “read” through our Scripture passage. We “listen” to what this passage says to our hearts. We express in “sighs” to the Holy Spirit our longing to understand the Scripture more deeply. We end our prayer time in “peace.” In this book all Scripture quotations are from the New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition. In some passages, I have changed from indirect to direct address in order to make the encounter with God more personal.
